GM Supplies was established in 2005. Its founder, Mark, having spent many years in HM Reserve Forces, felt that there should be a kit service provided to Regular and TA Soldiers, and Cadet Forces that listened to requirements and provided all types of equipment related solutions under one roof.
They starting out in 2005 selling military kit on-line, and in 2008 opened a shop in Melton, Suffolk. This included a large range of Military Surplus Clothing and personal equipment.
With the shop being close to a military establishment and being asked to adapt kit & equipment, the company expanded into offering tailoring and customisation work on personal equipment such as webbing (beltkit) and bergens (rucksacks) in early 2009.
Pretty soon they were being asked to provide embroidered and printed unit T shirts, so in 2010 the company purchased embroidery machines and vinyl print equipment and started providing embroidered and printed T-Shirts, Sweat shirts and hoodies etc.
With the countrywide demise of the military kit market in 2010 onwards, The business has expanded the print & embroidery side of the business with new state of the art equipment offering a full range of personalisation whether you are a school, Business, Sports Club or a Stag/Hen party.
2011 saw them purchase Sublimation printing equipment allowing them to expand their range to include Phone Cases, Mugs, bags, wallets, glass chopping boards etc. This printing method also allows for full colour ink printing onto specific garments.
In 2012 they moved to a larger premises in Martlesham, Suffolk to allow the expansion of the print & embroidery business, more embroidery machines were purchased and this coincided with the reduction of military clothing & equipment and the cessation of stocking military Surplus equipment.
Early 2014 saw us employ our first Army veteran who had passed through a Personnel recovery centre having been injured in the UK, he has now moved on to being a self-employed graphic designer who we still work very closely with.
In October 2014 we employed another ex-army soldier who was injured on active service in Afghanistan in 2011 and spent most of the next three years in the recovery system.
In mid 2015 we ran a kickstarter campaign, 'creating caps and creating jobs', which enabled us to purchase a cap printing machine and employ a forces veteran to operate this machinery. October 2015 saw us fill this role with a veteran who had spent the previous two years doing agency work and claiming job seekers allowance, unable to secure a full time role.
